On the 22nd of July, the closure of Odessa Film Festival was held at Odessa Opera House.
At the closing ceremony, among the celebrities seen on the red carpet, there was the actor Aidan Turner, French actress Isabelle Huppert, Polish scriptwriter and director Agnieszka Holland, and the actress Liya Akhedzhakova.
Also, among the guests on the carpet, there were the deputies of the Odessa City Council, officials, and media people.
At the farewell ceremony, the jury named the winners of the Film Festival in various nominations.
The Grand Prix for the best film got the film «King of the Belgians» directed by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth.
The best film became the work of Carla Simon «Summer 1993».
«Golden Duke» for Best Director was awarded to Nana Ekvtishmvili for the film «My Happy Family».
The prize for «Best Performance» got Ie Shugashvili and Tsise Kvamsashvili for the film «My Happy Family».
Special prize of the jury of the international competition program was given to the film «Free And Easy» by Jiu Geng.
The prize for the best European documentary film went to director Sergei Bukovsky for his film «The Main Role».
The best Ukrainian feature-length film became the work «Dixie land» by Roman Bondarchuk, and the best Ukrainian short film – «Graduation’97» by Pavel Ostrikov.
The award for «Best Performance» in the national competition was given to Nina Antonova for her work in the film «The Main Role».
Special prize of the jury in the national competition went to the films «Buzok» by Ekaterina Gornostai and «Priputny» by Arkady Nepitalyuk. Also «Buzok» won in the national competition program among the short films. And among the feature-length films, the prize got «Black Level» directed by Valentin Vasyanovich.
best drama at the 8th Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) became the drama thriller «The Damned Mountains» (Croatia). The prize was a complex of postproduction services in the amount of 10 thousand dollars.
The winners among the pitches are two projects – «Stop-Earth» (directed by Ekaterina Gornostai) and «My thoughts are quiet» (by Antonio Lukic). Both projects received a prize in the amount of 60 thousand hryvnias from the sponsor of the OIFF – the investment-development company UDP.
The project «Vulcan» by the director Roman Bondarchuk won in the category work in progress. He was awarded the prize of the general air carrier of OIFF – MAU company: the tickets with the par value of 2 thousand dollars.
Additionally, the honorable «Golden Duke» for the contribution to the cinema culture was given to Agnieszka Holland whose work «Spoor» was shown at the OIFF in the frames of one of the out-of-competition programs.
The honored guest of the OIFF became the French actress Isabelle Huppert, who was awarded an honorable prize for her contribution to the cinematography. «Today I saw how rich and promising Ukrainian cinema is. There are people here to work with», – Isabelle Huppert said after the ceremony.
The film closing the Film Festival was the comedy by Sally Potter «Party», participated in the competition Berlinale-2017.
It should be reminded, that the 8th Odessa International Film Festival started on the 14th of July. There were presented both the new works of modern directors and the films shown earlier already. Generally, the OIFF program includes 12 full-length films from 27 countries.
